Mr. Lester C. Peabody, a longtime resident of Melrose and principal of Peabody Office Furniture, a leader in the office furniture industry, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was 101 years old.
Lester was born in Melrose on July 28, 1908, son of the late Lorenzo J. Peabody and Charlotte (Colby) Peabody.
Lester C. Peabody graduated from Boston University in 1931. He learned the office furniture business from his father, Lorenzo, who had founded the company in 1899 as a typewriter and sales shop on Devonshire Street in Boston.
